For the last few days, I’ve been unplugged. Very little computer, infact none on Monday at all. It’s amazing how much you can get done if you stay off the computer. Work is caught up, dishes are done, lawn is mowed, laundry is done and a lot of studying has been accomplished. I also started cleaning out the basement.
About a week ago, I set my computer to hibernate. My old computer was set up for this but I’m just getting around to it on the new computer. I have it set up to a Smart Surge Protector so when my computer goes into sleep mode, all the stuff plugged into the same strip turns off as well. I’m trying to save power over the summer since the AC eats up a lot of power.
Saving electricity has had another benefit: saving time. When I walk into the office and see the computer off, I don’t want to turn it back on. When the computer is on, I’ll run in and check my email or check the news. When it’s off, I won’t bother. Over the past few days, this has saved me a lot of time at the computer since I always seem to get caught up in other things once I sit down.
I’m planning to get some work done today and unplug tomorrow as well. Try it. You’ll be amazed how good you feel and how productive you can be. As a blogger, I shouldn’t be giving you this advice but we all need a little time away. Just make sure if you do hit the computer, you hit my site 🙂 kidding, kinda.
