I’m back!

The last two weeks have been crazy. Thanksgiving, grading and a nasty cold have completely derailed me for the last two weeks. The cold (or whatever it is) still lingers. I’m drinking plenty of orange juice and I’ve polished off an entire box of oyster crackers.

I can’t believe Christmas is only a few weeks away. Am I the only person that is not in the Christmas spirit yet? Most of my shopping is done but I still have a lot of knitting to do. It’s also pretty warm in Connecticut so that’s not helping either.

I do have a great idea to help you save on next year’s holiday shopping though. My birthday is in December, so all the coupons and free deals are starting to trickle in. So I started thinking. I’m pretty lucky to have a birthday in December since I get all these deals right before the holidays (December birthdays do suck in other ways, like people forgetting your birthday since it’s between Christmas and New Years). So I thought, well if you don’t have a December birthday, you could just say you have one to get the coupons right before Christmas. Do the people at Victoria’s Secret check your licence when you sign up for the mailing list? Do the folks at the local kitchen store make sure your birthday is accurate? I know, some of you are going to say it’s not the most ethical thing to do, but the stores need the business right?

The other approach is to do some holiday shopping around your birthday to take advantage of all these deals. I just checked my mail and had coupons from five or six different stores, all good for the month of December. Might be worth it to consider doing some Christmas shopping around your birthday next year.

Frugal Friday will return in full force next week.

About Kristin

In 2007, my husband and I realized that we were broke. Deeply in debt and scared, we decided we needed a plan. At first our progress was slow but we rolled up our sleeves and started digging. We’ve paid off over $100,000 in credit cards, car debt, and student loans. We still have a long way to go but we are making great progress and should be debt free in 2016.
