Our fireplace is very drafty. As we are not planning to have any more fires this winter because I don’t want to purchase anymore firewood, we needed a quick solution that wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg. Last night, I found the fix. We had a window insulation kit I purchased a while back on clearance. I was planning to seal off a crawl space door upstairs. Well, we dug out that kit and used it to cover the fireplace. The difference is amazing. My nose no longer gets cold in the family room. I can actually sit on the couch without a blanket (even though I will still use one, it’s not a necessity anymore).
Try it out. The kit will cost you about $12 bucks, unless you can find them on clearance. There will be more than enough material to cover your fireplace multiple times if you need to. It would also work well if you have a drafty attic fan.
Don’t forget about the comment contest going on through the end of the month. I look forward to your suggestions.
