Do you need an accountability partner?

Do you have a major project you are working on? Maybe it’s your monthly budget. Maybe it’s a project for work or a personal goal (like the ones we talked about in the previous two posts). Do you have a project around the house that you are having trouble completing? Are you having trouble sticking to that budget or the timeline you’ve created to hit that goal? Maybe you need an accountability partner.

I’ve told you that I’m studying for the GMAT so I can finally apply to PhD programs. I’m pretty good at motivating myself to sit down and study. I self studied for the CPA exam years ago, but the weather is starting to get nice and I don’t have much desire to sit in the house and study. After writing “What would you do if you knew you could not fail?”, I called a friend of mine to get her thoughts on the topic. I told her what I was working on and she filled me in on what she was working on. We decided to team up and become accountability partners. This morning I came up with a study schedule for my exam and she’s coming up with a plan for the next week for her project. We’ll talk every few days to encourage each other to stay in task.

I really love this concept. It helps make your dreams a reality while helping someone else make his or her dream come true. It’s really a win-win situation. When working on a project, ask yourself if you could use support from a friend or colleague. Studying for an exam is a huge undertaking and it’s awesome knowing that I’ve got someone there to keep me on schedule. Just make sure that when you pick an accountability partner, the person you choose is actually going to hold you accountable. You don’t want someone who is going to let you slide. Choose wisely.

All of you are my spending accountability partners, whether you know it or not. Whenever I consider a purchase, I think ‘what would the readers think?’ Since starting this blog, I’ve really stuck to my budget. Having an audience really makes you think about things. I really wish celebrities would think of this before doing stupid things. We can always dream right?

Are there any projects you have where an accountability partner would be helpful? Maybe you can connect up with someone who needs a partner as well. Let’s get productive!
