Jeff and I have been doing a monthly budget for about a year now. At first, I was doing the budget a few days before the end of the month. Then on the first of the month. This month, I started to think maybe I didn’t need to do a budget. I know, I know. Every dollar on paper before the month begins. I could hear Dave’s voice in my head.
I figured I’d do the budget on the first, then it was the third and before I knew it a third of the month was gone. I thought about paying bills, but I didn’t know how much should go to the snowball. How am I doing on groceries? Can I go out to lunch with a friend. I started to feel a bit lonely. I didn’t have my little friend, the budget, there to guide me. It’s amazing how much I rely on the budget to make decisions. I don’t spend money without consulting the budget. I reconcile the budget once a week to see how much we have left.
Tonight, the lack of budget got to me. I HAD TO DO IT. It wasn’t that I was intentionally blowing off the budget, but I’ve been busy and I generally know how much I have to spend… Ya Right! Stop fooling yourself, dear. You NEED the budget!
I feel better now 🙂
